The 2024 Kumon Awards Ceremony, held on September 8 at the Menlo Park Hotel in Galway, was a testament to the remarkable academic achievements of young learners. The event, inaugurated by Galway City Mayor Cllr. Peter Keane, honored students who have demonstrated exceptional proficiency in Kumon’s mathematics and English programs.
Top Honors for Outstanding Achievers
Leading the accolades were Amala Robin and Daron Gabriel D. Franco, who received the highest academic awards for completing their Kumon programs well ahead of schedule. Robin finished her English program three years early, while Franco completed his mathematics program two years ahead of time. Their accomplishments place them among the elite fewer than one percent of Kumon students worldwide who reach program completion, as highlighted by Mr. Yohei Seike, Deputy General Manager of Kumon Europe and Africa.
Recognizing Advanced Learners
The ceremony also celebrated other high-achieving students:
Bronze Medals: 44 students studying at least six months ahead of their school grade level.
Silver Medals: 12 students working two or more years ahead.
Gold Medals: Seven students progressing three or more years beyond their current grade.
These awards underscore Kumon’s commitment to fostering advanced learning and self-study skills among its students.
Special Recognitions
In addition to academic excellence, special trophies were awarded to students excelling on the digital platform, Kumon Connect:
Junior Champion Trophy: Awarded to Daniel Samy for completing 2,000 worksheets in early levels of math and English within six months.
Senior Champion Trophy: Presented to Daron Gabriel D. Franco for mastering 1,600 advanced mathematics worksheets over nine months, culminating in program completion.
The Stephen Hayden Trophy for personal excellence was bestowed upon Parth Holehonnur from Claregalway, recognizing his determination to continue advanced studies despite significant health challenges during the year.
Kumon’s Educational Impact
Kumon, the world’s largest after-school math and reading program, is designed to help children of all abilities develop proficiency and confidence in these subjects. Through a combination of structured worksheets and instructor guidance, students progress at their own pace, mastering each concept before advancing. This method not only enhances academic skills but also cultivates independent learning habits.
The 2024 Kumon Awards Ceremony highlighted the dedication of students, the support of their families, and the effectiveness of the Kumon Method in unlocking the potential of young learners.
